Dallas is a thriving city with a diverse population, and the same can be said for its workforce demographics. When it comes to education level, 32.1% of workers in Dallas have a bachelor’s degree or higher, 23.4% have some college (but no degree), 27.7% have a high school diploma or equivalent, 9.2% have an associate’s degree, and 7.6% did not report their highest level of educational attainment.
In terms of industry type, 18.2% work in the service sector, 19.8% work in sales/office occupations, 16.1% work in management/business/finance, 11.9% are employed in production/transportation occupations, 11.1% are employed in construction and maintenance occupations, 8.7% are employed in education/health care/social assistance and 14.2% of workers were classified as “other”.

Other prominent companies based in Dallas include Jacobs Engineering Group, Texas Instruments, and Kimberly-Clark. The city is also home to several well-known universities, including Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas at Dallas, and Texas Christian University, all of which employ thousands of people. Additionally, there are numerous hospitals and healthcare systems employing physicians and healthcare staff such as the Parkland Health & Hospital System and Baylor Scott & White Health.
Professional services are a crucial sector in the Dallas economy, with companies such as KPMG, Deloitte, PwC, and EY being among the largest employers in this sector. A number of technology companies like IBM and Microsoft have also established significant operations in the city, providing employment to thousands of people.
The government is another major employer in Dallas, with the City of Dallas alone employing more than 12,000 people. The Federal Government also has a presence in the city with numerous federal agencies located here including the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the Internal Revenue Service, and the US Department of Agriculture. Lastly, many educational institutions hire teachers and support staff to teach students enrolled at these schools too.
